Hull Maternity Services

We’ve reintroduced face-to-face antenatal classes for those living in Hull / with a Hull GP. We offer live and interactive online classes as well as face-to-face sessions. You can choose how you wish to access antenatal classes; either online, face-to-face or, occasionally, as a combination of the two. Please note antenatal classes in the East Riding of Yorkshire are organised through East Riding Children's Centres.

Antenatal Classes

Antenatal classes (sometimes called parent education or a birth preparation course) help you get ready for your baby's birth and give you confidence and information.

Classes run online over four weeks, with one session per week. And you'll have an opportunity to ask questions find out information relevant to you and your pregnancy.

They are fun and free to attend!

There is also a service you can access via Hull Women and Children’s Facebook page called ‘Ask the midwife’.

Week 1

Labour and Birth

Week 2

Postnatal Care and Support

Week 3

Safety,
Baby Care,
Healthy Lifestyles

Week 4

Infant Feeding

How will the course help me?

  • Learn about labour and birth, make a birth plan, and discuss your choices.
  • Prepare for life with a new baby.
  • Find out how to stay healthy during and after pregnancy.
  • Get information on infant feeding and safe sleeping. We look at infant feeding in Week 3, but if you're interested in knowing more about breastmilk and breastfeeding your baby, including position and attachment, how to know your baby is getting enough, and where to seek support, then we recommend also booking onto Week 4.
  • Meet some new parents-to-be and discuss your plans and any worries with professionals and other parents. These friendships can help parents through the first few months with their new baby.

Who can attend?

Classes are open to mums, dads and birth partners. There are two places allocated per booking.

Postnatal Classes

Have you recently had a baby or become a parent?

At this wonderful and challenging time, it is good to meet up with other people and share experiences, joys, grumbles and laughs.

The postnatal group is very informal; there is no need to book or feel under pressure to be there on time. Just come as you are!

We do not have any formal agenda - just come and meet other parents. What you can expect to see is professionals on hand to answer any questions you may have. These staff will be available at various sessions from midwifery, accident prevention, infant feeding and House of Light.
