The Welfare Rights Services is provided by Hull City Council in partnership with Hull University Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust and Macmillan Cancer Care
The Welfare Rights Service provides free and confidential advice and advocacy to ensure cancer patients receive their correct entitlement to state benefits. The Welfare Rights Advisor can assist patients and their family members with the following:
- Provide a full benefit check based on the patients’ health issues and financial situation
- Assistance to challenge benefit decisions including representation at tribunal
- Assistance to request an increase in disability related benefits
- Advice or assistance to make benefit claims including:
- Attendance Allowance
- Personal Independence Payments
- Carers Allowance
- Universal Credit
- Pension Credit
- Employment and Support Allowance
- Housing Benefit
- Council Tax Reduction
- Bereavement Benefits
- Assistance to apply for a Blue Badge parking permit
- Signposting to other relevant services
If you have a cancer diagnosis or are a carer or close family member of a cancer patient and live in Hull or The East Riding of Yorkshire region you can be referred to the service. Referrals can be made by health professionals but the service will also accept self-referrals.
