The Critical Care, Anaesthetic and Infectious Diseases Research Team are based at both Hull Royal Infirmary and Castle Hill Hospital.

Critical Care

The types of patients that participate in our studies are those individuals who have been admitted to the Intensive Care Unit either due to an emergency or as an elective admission following surgery. Studies within the Critical Care setting vary from observational studies through to clinical trials involving investigational medicinal products. Critical Care studies focus on a wide variety of conditions including but not exclusive to sepsis, kidney injury and respiratory problems in addition to exploring the genetics of such conditions.

Anaesthetics

Anaesthetic study participants are individuals who are undergoing an anaesthetic as part of their surgery. We are currently participating in a number of interventional and non- interventional studies looking at complications associated with surgery. Anaesthetic studies also include national audit projects in which a large number of patients are recruited into a study with a view of gaining important data that could potentially impact patient experience during and after anaesthesia.

Infectious Diseases

We are currently participating in a number of commercial and non- commercial studies including those that look at long term and short term antibiotic use, diagnosis and treatment of sepsis and other infectious diseases’ including tuberculosis.
