Our hospitals are teaching hospitals and as part of the service we provide here, we always have students working with us.

Everyone has the right to choose whether or not to have students participate in their care and treatment. Students are always identified to you, and you can withdraw your consent at any time.

If you have any questions or concerns, or would like to offer feedback on the student’s performance, please approach any member of staff.

Our hospitals work in partnership with Hull York Medical School, providing placements for medical students, and with The University of Hull, working with student nurses, midwives and operating department practitioners.

In addition, placements are provided for a range of other professions — from physiotherapists to healthcare scientists — from universities across the Yorkshire and Humber region and beyond.

HEY is supporting clinical placements for HYMS’ Physician Associate students in addition to medical students. There 32 PA students assigned in groups of 4 to 8 HEY wards. They are trained in the medical model and will have similar interactions with patients as medical students. They have an intensive training and will be on placement in HEY throughout the year.
